Riverdale’s Uptown Coffeehouse Fights to Keep Folk Music in the Bronx

The Uptown Coffeehouse, a volunteer-run organization providing a venue to bring folk music to the Riverdale section of the Bronx, has been in existence for over 24 years. Each year, from October through June, the non-profit hosts a singer-song writer to a small crowd at the Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture. However, due to funding cut backs, the makeshift coffeehouse may not make it to its 25th year. The volunteers are hopeful that the organization will continue on, but with a dwindling folk music fan base, its future remains unclear.
