Live Coverage: Gotham Girls Bring Roller Derby to New York

New York City is at the center of a six-year national resurgence of roller derby.

The Gotham Girls roller derby league is one of 109 such leagues in the United States and Canada. The league has four teams–in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens–with two traveling teams that play in other cities.

This latest iteration of the sport eschews a banked track for a flat rink, allowing the Gotham Girls to hold bouts in gymnasiums across the city.

This Saturday, the Bronx Gridlock square-off against the Brooklyn Bombshells at the City College of New York’s Nat Holman Gymnasium. If you can’t be there, come here instead: we’ll be liveblogging the whole bout with photos, video, play-by-play and more.

5/14 Brooklyn vs. Bronx

City College of New York / Nat Holman Gymnasium New York, NY

Coverage starts at 8 p.m. and the first whistle blows at 8:30.
